CREDIT Technology Gateway is a renewables and energy optimisation research group that applies emerging technologies, expertise and specialist knowledge across the energy and renewables sector to help innovative businesses and companies succeed in the introduction of new and improved processes, products and services. CREDIT TG provides access to R&D solutions to develop new products or services, or implement optimisation of a process/s, for business and industry. Our Team

Dominic McLarnon
Dominic McLarnonCREDIT Technology Gateway Manager
Dominic is an experienced research engineer, start-up founder/developer and research programme facilitator/manager with strong sectoral experience in the renewables and energy industry. Dominic graduated from Ulster University and QUB respectively with B.Eng. (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and MSc in Computer Aided Mechanical Engineering Design in the 1990s. He was appointed a Research Associate in Ulster in the early 1990s working in the sustainability and photovoltaics sector. He then worked as Design for Environment (DfE) specialist at Nortel Networks until early 2000s before running a successful private consultancy practice focusing on construction access and sustainability until 2010. Dominic then moved back to Ulster to manage research at the Centre for Sustainable Technologies before taking up the position as H2020 National Contact Point for Energy for NI. In 2017 Dominic was appointed Commercialisation Manager on SPIRE 2 project funded by INTERREG VA based at Ulster University. Dominic is also a co-founder in a startup micro-SME which has developed a patented solar thermal technology for the African market.
Paul MacArtain, Ph.D
Paul MacArtain, Ph.DSenior Research Fellow and co-PI
Dr. MacArtain was awarded a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from NUI Dublin in 2004. He then worked with CyberColloids Ltd. as an InterTrade Ireland FUSION graduate before commencing as a project manager at CREDIT in 2006. He became research manager in 2008 and Senior Research Fellow at Dundalk IT in 2013. He lectured in bioenergy on the M.Sc. in Renewable Energy Systems from 2006 to 2017. He was Centre Director of CREDIT from 2017 to 2021 and is co-PI on the Enterprise Ireland CREDIT Technology Gateway. He is currently researcher on the SPIRE2 project funded by INTERREG VA and managed by the SEUPB.
Dr Fergal O’Rourke Ph.D.
Dr Fergal O’Rourke Ph.D.Lecturer and co-PI
Dr. Fergal O’Rourke is a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Dundalk IT. He was awarded his Ph.D. from TU Dublin and his research interests include fluid dynamics, wind and tidal energy.
Dr Ray Byrne
Dr Ray ByrneSenior Research Fellow
Raymond has been working as a researcher at the Centre for Renewable Energy at DkIT since 2005. He is currently the national representative on IEA Wind Task 27 and is also a participating member of two International Electrotechnical Council (IEC) technical committees concerning standards development for wind turbines (TC 88) and electrical energy storage systems (TC 120).
Wai Hong Keet
Wai Hong KeetResearch Assistant
Wai Hong Keet has an education background in Electronic and Computing Engineering (B.Eng.(Hons), M.Eng.).He has worked with multiple industry and institute partners in research and development local and abroad. Wai has a research interest in combining robotic and machine learning in optimizing renewable energy system.
